Project Description
Chagas Family
Roberto and Suellen Chagas, a young couple, who from an early age, while still in their parent’s home, developed the fear of the Lord and the missionary spirit natural to an Adventist home. They grew up always active in their local churches, whether in the Pathfinders club, participating in the worship ministry or as Sabbath school class teachers.
They met at a church summer camp where they individually accepted the call to mission wherever they went.
Then the relationship was strengthened through a missionary project at college, actively participating in the Public Campus Ministries, Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil where they developed their skills of serving others, welcoming and teaching from God’s word. Both participated in some short-term missionary projects in two editions of the Andrews mission in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, sailing on a boat on the Paraguay River and also in the ‘Missão Calebe’ project in 4 cities in the region (Campo grande, Corguinho, Eldorado, Sidrolândia) and also in Montevideo, Uruguay. Going from house to house was mainly what they did in these projects, through Bible studies, evangelism tents and health expos.
Roberto served as a canvasser in order to train himself to be a missionary, soon after serving in the Brazilian army as a soldier, preaching the gospel and testifying before many about biblical truths and through his life of obedience to God’s commandments. He is a professional IT, software developer and is on the process of obtaining his pilot’s license.
Suellen is a biologist passionate about nature, has worked as a designer and was a teacher at an Adventist school. She earned her master’s degree in public health, and then worked in the laboratory at the Pênfigo Adventist Hospital. She loves teaching and is active in youth ministry.
Roberto and Suellen have been serving Adventist World Aviation since August 2023 and leading the Project in Mabaruma in Guyana.
