Dear Family and Friends:
The last few weeks have been very busy taking care of family issues, preparing for our baby’s arrival, and moving to our new home in the country. By the time you all read this letter baby, Caleb Fix will have arrived. Yosiday and I covet your prayers as we embark on this new adventure of parenthood.
We are finally getting settled in our little trailer, and it is feeling warm and homey as the colder weather is starting to blow in from the North. Yosi has been feeling the strain of carrying another body for the last nine months. We praise God that her pregnancy has been relatively uneventful. But as any other mother can relate, she is ready to get this baby out. We are blessed to be surrounded with many supportive people.
We’ve also been making plans and headway with aviation through these busy months. Since receiving my license, I’ve built up my hours to a total of 110 hours in the sky. I’ve had a good chance through the summer and into the fall to add up time, and I’m grateful to all of you for making this possible. I look forward to the day when I can use my ability to fly November 2016 to help people through medical evacuations, as well as give sharing Jesus with them. Shortly, I hope to be able to do some grass airstrip landings to be better prepared for the type of airfields that I will encounter in the mission field. I’ve had the chance to fly in the mountains and hills of eastern Kentucky to challenge myself, and I enjoy that a lot.
Earlier this year I flew into a small airstrip in West Liberty, Kentucky with my wife on a Sunday evening and I attempted to land two times, and I had to go around each time because I was too high. There was a hill that was right on the approach, and I had to hug it to align myself with the runway. The whole airport is in a bowl in the hills, and I’ve heard stories of people getting killed on this airstrip from not being careful. But on the third attempt, I put all my skills into action, and we landed safely with plenty of runway to spare. After landing, I watched a friend of mine land with a faster aircraft that he’d never flown there before and he smoked the tires almost the entire length of the runway. He was shaken up a tad. After a brief inspection, we found that there was nothing wrong with his tires and we flew back home into the sunset.
Just like my short story, we will have challenges to face in this life. We face a lot of them day to day, and as we all look to the future that is all too uncertain, we worry about the outcome of our lives. In my flying, I had the training to prepare me for many situations. I’ve read books, watched videos, and talked with people of experience to guide me. In this adventure of life, we need to take advantage of the instruction the Great Instructor has given us. He’s blessed us with His word, put wise mentors in our paths, and even came to this world to live as one of us and then died to clear our name of sin. He also wants to take our hearts and make them new, so then we will be one in spirit with Him–wanting the things He wants and hating the things He hates. I don’t know a better deal than that. People like to say that all religions are the same, but I’ve not heard of one that comes close to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I can trust Him when I don’t understand all the things that are happening to me and in the world around me, and I know that He wants to see me grease a landing onto that heavenly shore more than anyone. I also know that He’s doing everything in His almighty power to make that possible.
If any of you don’t know this God of mine and made Him your own, I would encourage you not to wait any longer to taste and see that He is good. He invites everyone. This world is passing away, and there’s going to a new one. Won’t you let God work in your life to prepare you to be a part of that? He asks nothing of us that isn’t in our best interest to give up, and He gives so much in return.
You are in our prayers, and I hope we are in yours as well. There’s a lot of work to be done, but in God’s strength, we are more than able to accomplish all that He calls us to do.
Take courage and fight the good fight of faith.
