As we were preparing to go to Nicaragua, we learned that, because my mother was born in Nicaragua, I can claim citizenship there. We called the embassy in Miami, and they gave us the instructions on how to apply. Recently my confirmation arrived in the mail. I am officially accepted as a citizen of Nicaragua with the last step being that I present myself in person. I have also been given a new legal name, Caleb Runne Cabezas. My mother’s maiden name is Cabezas, so the Latin American custom is that children have both their father’s and mother’s last names…
