For a long time, Mateo’s life was built on appearances. In his neighborhood and on the soccer field, he was known as the cheerful one—the one who always had something to say. But behind that image, he carried a deep sense of emptiness. He tried so hard to be “the best” in the eyes of others that he eventually lost sight of who he truly was. He chased happiness in temporary things and friendships that only lasted in good moments. When everything grew quiet, the weight of loneliness settled heavily on his heart. One day, almost out of obligation, Mateo accepted an invitation to a regional youth gathering. I had the privilege of being there and sharing the Word of God.
