Lois Cheever, born January 29, 1928 in Roby, TX, attended Madison College in Tennessee where she met Lawrence Cheever. They married August 29, 1948 and finished their B.S. Degree in Nursing together in 1951. She was dedicated to serving the Lord in the local churches where they lived and traveled. She always made the traveling pastor, colporteur, missionary, or other person in need welcome in her home.
In 1954 they started a family of four boys all in a row, then Lois got the little girl she longed for! The family moved from Savannah, Tennessee to Winter Garden, Florida in 1961. Lois designed the home that they built. She made sliding drawers from the utility room to the bathroom so that the children could easily reach their clean clothes after a bath and she could wash/dry/fold and put them in the drawers easily.
In 1969, Lois gave birth to her fifth son. The family enjoyed traveling around the USA seeing family, friends, natural beauty, and historic sites, but they seldom missed attending church in the local area. As the children grew up and began leaving home, overseas travel included Europe, Portugal, Mexico, Canada, and Honduras.
Lois believed in volunteering for service. Not only did she teach Sabbath School and lead out as Sabbath School Superintendent, she was a deaconess, treasurer, Pathfinder counselor and much more. She and Larry helped build buildings for schools, churches, outreach daycare centers, and yet they found time to give Bible studies and help with evangelistic campaigns and mission trips.
She knew how to stretch a dollar and a meal! She could sing, sew, repair cars and appliances, cook, teach piano, garden and can the produce, but the thing she did best was to love. She loved everyone and always made people feel welcome. Her home was the place to be for the neighborhood kids or the church group. She taught principles of Christian living by example and sometimes through thoughtful advice.
She was a prayer warrior and a friend of Jesus. She sought to inspire others to know Him and love Him as their best friend. Whenever faced with a difficult situation her advice was, “Let’s ask Jesus to help.” Her faith was tested but she endured to the end with a sweet disposition despite being a stroke victim and unable to talk or use her right side. She was still able to smile and pray!
We look forward to the great resurrection morning when she will be given a new body and will once more praise God and get to meet her very best friend, JESUS!
