Project Description
Thomas Hinrichs
Thomas Hinrichs Comptroller — Wilson, NC
Joined AWA: 2016
Thomas Hinrichs serves as AWA’s Comptroller, managing the organization’s financial operations and ensuring that every dollar entrusted to AWA is used effectively to support the mission.
Thomas first became connected with AWA in 2016 while working at a Florida CPA firm owned by AWA’s Volunteer CFO. After being entrusted with AWA’s bookkeeping, he quickly developed a deep appreciation for the organization’s purpose. His first directors’ meeting—where he met the missionaries and saw their passion firsthand—made him realize he could use his accounting talents to make a very real impact for God’s work around the world.
Over the years, Thomas’s role in AWA’s treasury department continued to expand. In 2020, he officially joined the AWA staff full-time and relocated to the North Carolina headquarters in 2021.
With a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Southern Adventist University, Thomas is trained as a full-service accountant, handling everything from bookkeeping and payroll to financial reporting, audits, and donor relations. “My priority now is to ensure that we are proper stewards of God’s money, which our donors have entrusted to us to further His work.” Thomas shares. “Making sure our missionaries and volunteers have the support structure in place to take care of both the physical and spiritual needs of the people we serve around the globe.” Thomas finds great fulfillment in knowing his work helps strengthen the foundation that allows AWA’s missionaries and pilots to continue serving others—until the work is finished.
