Greetings from the Fix family! We would like to share exciting news about our future plans with AWA!
I have been needing to get my Instrument Rating ever since receiving my private pilot license three years ago. An instrument rating enables me to fly in clouds and low visibility conditions. It teaches pilots to work with limitations and opens up many opportunities to fly when it would otherwise be impossible. However, it was not until last year that God opened up the door for me to work on it. We received donations for my initial training and our local airport added another trainer plane to their fleet, making it easier to schedule the time to train. Not only that, but recently my friend became a flight instructor there and helped prepare me for the test!
I first started studying last year by watching hours of instructional videos. Then I used special software to study for the knowledge test, which, with God’s grace, I passed in July. After that, I started flying with my flight instructor-friend to get 40 hours of flight time in the clouds or to wear visibility-limiting glasses. The weather has been nice lately, so I had to use the glasses more than I would have liked since they hurt my temples. However, in order to fulfill the requirements, I could not look out the windows and had to rely on my instruments!
Then came the day my flight instructor signed off for me to be eligible to take the test. This was the test that had been hanging over me for three years now, and I was so nervous. Self-doubt crept in, and I felt unsure if I was ready. In my mind, it was as scary as the final judgment where God weighs people in the balances to see who will receive the joys of heaven. On top of that, my wife and kids got sick! Bless my wife’s heart as she handled the home front, as I studied and prepared for the test. Thankfully, God is with us and I had many people praying for me including my family, church family, and AWA family.
When the day finally arrived to take the test, I met the examiner at the airport and he first gave me an oral test followed by a practical test where I demonstrated the skills I had learned. He was very nice and understood my nervousness. When the test was over, we landed, he congratulated me, and gave me my license! God is so good!
Five days later, we went to Mexico to visit Yosi’s family that we had not seen in four years. Unfortunately, it was on a sad occasion as Yosi’s grandmother had just passed away. Yosi was sad she did not get a chance to say goodbye, but she is encouraged by the hope that she will see her again one day and old age will affect her no longer.
We are back in the states excited to start preparing for serving God full-time at the AWA project in the Philippines. Pray for us as we raise funds for the project and work on finishing my flight training to get my commercial pilot’s license soon. We desperately need more donations and prayers to help complete my training, and get everything ready to deploy to the Philippines! I am feeling the urgency to put my talents to good use in God’s service. Thank you all for making this become a reality!
