Project Description
Aponte Family
Jose Aponte was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to a family of strong women. From a very young age, Jose had a passion for planes but was not able to fulfill his dreams until later on in life. In the meanwhile, he was able to receive his GED and lead on to study and graduate from John J college with a degree in criminal justice and become a Police Officer for 8 year in Puerto Rico. During this time, he met his wife Betzaida in a karate dojo and the pair were married within 4 years. Jose then felt a calling to move to the states and pursue a career working with planes and that led him to serve in the Air Force in active duty and Reserve for a total of 14 years where he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic. He also worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation for 7 years where he continued working as an Aircraft Mechanic to extend his knowledge on fighter jets as F16 block 30,52 and 60 also on F-35 A & C . He was also able to receive his private pilot license. Jose and Betzaida have been married for over 23 years and have 5 kids. Their oldest son followed in his fathers footsteps and joined the Air Force. Their oldest daughter is a videographer and is serving the Lord in this capacity. Their 3 youngest daughters are homeschooled and they love to bake, sew, paint, read, and much more.
Before becoming a member of the AWA family, Jose prayed to God to provide a way where he could use his skills to serve the Lord. Only three days later, he received a call from AWA expressing their interest in him. Jose and his family prayed over the decision for weeks. They
knew the Lord’s timing was perfect so they decided to move in faith by accepting the position.
Jose works as an aircraft mechanic and as a pilot when needed. He is working towards getting his A&P license and IFR plus commercial pilot license. As for his family, they are missionaries in training eager to serve the Lord!
