“Hmmmmm…” My brain was hard at work. I had been instructed by my manager, Bruce Wilkerson, Philippines Project Manager, to build a gate for where the hanger will be. Right now, there are a couple of storage containers providing a bit of shelter for the plane, but without a strong gate, the airplane just isn’t safe. It was now time to make it more secure. Our village seems peaceful and quiet, but there are actually several dangers that could easily cause harm to the plane; malicious people who are not happy that we are here, thieves trying to find items to sell, kids just wanting something to play on and around, and carabao (water buffalo) that would find it a good scratching post, which could wreck havoc on it within minutes without batting an eye. Yes, it was time to build a good, strong gate. But how? It needed to be strong, yet lightweight. And, in what shape so that the plane could easily get in and out without getting hit.
