Frequently Asked Questions
Elder Robert Folkenberg saw that there was a need to spread the message of Matthew 28:18-20. He saw a decline in the missionary work which is to reach all nations. By using aircraft we can reach the interiors of these nations that would be otherwise inaccessible. By using aviation we are also bringing individuals medical attention that is greatly needed. Usually, we offer medical help first, and then the message is spread to those who are eager to understand God’s grace and our called mission.
There are several ways to be involved with AWA. Ways you can get involved are by volunteering your time. This can mean volunteering at the offices, helping at an event, volunteering as an A&P or Pilot, or even as a short term missionary. It would not be possible for us to continue our work without the help of individuals who want to give their time and talents to the work of the Lord.

We currently have 15 missionary families with dozens of local volunteers in each country to assist them in their work.
We have a total of 20 aircraft.
Approximately four hundred (400) flights each year.
Small, single engine planes such as Cessna 172s, Cessna 182s, Cessna 206s, Cessna 150s (for training) and a Piper Comanche for Angelwing flights in the US.
Visit AIRCRAFT page for more information.
Adventist World Aviation is a mission aviation organization with operations in North America, Central America, South America, and Asia.
We have our mission pilots scattered throughout these locations providing medical evacuations to people who need urgent medical care. Our Pilots also transport much needed supplies, build churches, and give Bible studies to the local indigenous people.
In the United States we have 2 training academies where we introduce high school aged studies to the joy of aviation. We have instructors in place to teach students and train them to get their private pilots license.
We also provide Angel Flights (non-emergency medical flights) from our US corporate headquarters. Angel Flights are non-emergency medical flights, provided to people too weak to get to treatments at far-away hospitals, such as cancer patients, or scheduled surgeries.
AWA was established by the GC in 1993 by the president (Elder Robert Folkenberg) and its officers. AWA was set up to be a supporting institution to the GC and all its entities. However, because of insurance requirements, it was necessary to establish a separate Independent-supporting Institu
We do not receive budgetary funding from the GC. However, if donations are sent to the GC we can still receive them, but it is best if the donations are sent directly to AWA. Because AWA is a separate 501-C3 (charitable organizations) we can issue tax-deductible receipts.
AWA is funded by individual donations which are given by individuals, churches, and organizations. This helps AWA with plane operations, project and building funds, and daily operations. Those who do donate see the need of AWA’s mission to heal the sick which can result in teaching the message of Jesus.
Visit our DONATE page.
Staff and missionaries for AWA are financially supported through the generous donations of individuals, churches, and organizations. These donations go on to help support those families who have given their life’s work to heal people of all nations.
