Project Description
Thunderbird Adventist Academy
Adventist World Aviation (AWA) has partnered with Thunderbird Adventist Academy (TAA) and the Arizona Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists to offer aviation education and flight training to Thunderbird students still in high school. AWA has placed one of their aircraft at the Thunderbird campus to be used for training. Instructional flights operate out of the Scottsdale Airport which is adjacent to the campus property. Work is in progress to move AWA’s maintenance headquarters to Scottsdale, and aircraft maintenance support is on-site to oversee maintenance on the training aircraft, a Cessna 172.
An aviation ground school course is available for credit. It prepares students for the FAA Private Pilot written exam, and provides other exposures that benefit students for futures both in and out of the aviation field. Students who are able may also take advantage of the flight training option available. With flight fees for students charged only at cost, it’s possible for students to receive the Private pilot license while they are in high school at significantly reduced rates.
Classes currently offered are:
- Private Pilot Ground School
- Private Pilot Flight Training
Adventist World Aviation is committed to humanitarian efforts through aviation and mission flying. We hope to ignite similar passions for service in the young people participating in our aviation program at AWA-Thunderbird.
