Dear Family and Friends:
Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:7, to “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.”
One of our fears, when we began working with Adventist World Aviation (AWA), was that perhaps we would not have enough financial support to do what we had been called to do. Concerned friends suggested that our children would lack and not have the financial advantages available to “normal” children. They said, “Think about your children.” Ironically, days later, another friend used the same words to suggest that we should most definitely go because it would be a good experience and make a difference for eternity. “Think about your children,” he said.
Having previously served 13 years as “missionaries” with Adventist World Radio, an organization financially supported by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, we knew how nice it was to have all our financial needs met without even asking for a dime. The idea of living off the generosity of friends and family was not very appealing. We were unmistakably drawn to the mission of AWA and felt God’s calling to ”Go.” In this newsletter, we would like to share with you a bit of what this experience has been like for us.
In a few months, we will be leaving for Nicaragua, and we can now look back and see the times that God has told us, “I am with you always” and “why did you doubt?” Over and over again we have been humbled to see the amazing generosity of God’s people. We remember the first donation we received; it came as a surprise from a lady in our church who was over 90 years old. Since that time God continues to provide for our needs. Now with our supporters, we have a connection that we never experienced when all our expenses were simply paid. Our joys, sorrows, and successes are shared, and we truly experience being part of the family of God. It is no longer just a job, but a mission.
We wish we could mention each of you by name, but that is not possible. Our support base includes people from all walks of life—single mothers, farmers, dentists, doctors, relatives, pastors, retired seniors, families, children, pilots, business owners, contractors, students, and teachers.
There are many stories we could share like the Canadian family who raised funds for rebuilding, Adrian’s Legacy, a donated Cessna 150 that will be used for training Canadian mission pilots. The Lehocky’s children who started a business with the proceeds going to help our mission. These children purchased two vending machines and made all the arrangements to place one of them at the Physical Education Center at Burman University in Lacombe, Alberta. Even after expenses, they have already raised over $100 in a few months. We thank Harbour (age 12), Reef (10), Nautica-Pearl (9), Ocean (7) and Anchor (3). We are so grateful to these children and all of you who are willing to support this mission that will benefit the Miskito people of Nicaragua.
We are reminded time and time again that this project of faith is not about us but sharing the love of Jesus with those around us who may not know Him and do not have hope in a coming Saviour. The fact that we rely on God to supply our needs through you draws us closer to Him and you as well. We have found that our supporters are so excited to be a part of what we are doing.
This newsletter has focused on those that can help us financially even in small ways, but we know that we are sustained through your prayers, as well. Sometimes when we are discouraged, we receive an email or a note telling us that they are praying for us. We feel so blessed to know that our concerns have been brought before our Heavenly Father and we are not alone. We thank God for this opportunity to serve Him along with each of you.
